About Derek

Derek Eland is a multi media artist whose work is an interrogation of his subject matter, be it the dry stone walls, hamlets and field patterns of the British landscape or his ‘conversation pieces’ with soldiers on the front line.

In 2011 he worked as an official war artist embedded with the British Army in Helmand, Afghanistan. The groundbreaking work which resulted from the month he spent on the front line is touring the UK as a solo exhibition starting at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester in October 2011.

Derek Eland has completed a number of residencies and is a gallery artist at County Galleries in Cheshire. He has a Masters Degree in Contemporary Fine Art and in 2007 his work was short-listed for the International Celeste Art prize.
